parkrun is booming!

24 March, 2010

infographics related to the parkrunAbout two years ago (December 2007) I participated in my first parkrun in Wimbledon. Then there were only six parkrun events in the UK; now there are 31 and there are more to be added soon! 20 of them were added during the last 12 months!

parkrun is a timed, 5K run; more of a trial than of a race. It’s free (in contrast with most running events that take place in the UK) and happens in several parks (see the infograph) every Saturday morning at 9am. So again unlike most running events, it is a weekly, rather than an annual, event.

It is how sports should be and I can not recommended it highly enough! They have an excellent website http://www.parkrun.com where you can find all the information you need to participate.

The website also has a database of results and statistics from all the parkruns held so far, which tempted me to design this infograph. I hope that it will be inspiring!
